Aaron's Beard

Psalm 133 A song of ascents. Of David. 1 How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! 2 It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron's beard, down upon the collar of his robes. 3 It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the LORD bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.

Modern Mary Magdalene

While driving home from my christmas ventures, I had an idea for a skit of sorts. What if the story of Jesus saving the woman who was about to be stoned for prostitution (thought to possibly be Mary Magdalene) was modernized? I know it's been done, but I was thinking of a twist that would make a lot of churches angry... but it's truth. Here it goes:

A woman of the night was cornered by several people witnessing that night. They were telling her of her sins... she was painfully aware of her sins. They were telling her she was going to hell. She was already in hell. They told her what a wicked person she was... and that Jesus could save her. How could someone save her that was burying her deeper in her shame?

A passerby saw the commotion. Stopped to listen. He didn't say a word for a long time, but somehow the woman drew comfort from his presence. The accusers were uneasy. Who was he? Why didn't he say something? Finally... after a long interval, in a quiet voice, forcing silence, he asked them, "Why are you accusing this woman?". They began another string of accusations toward the woman. The next question went something like this, "Why don't you try saving yourselves?" With piercing eyes... it was as though he could see the sins of the accusers as they were paraded on the stages of each individual mind. The replies came in pieces, and tapered off into the night. "Jesus saved me... I don't have to save myself... I am righteous by the blood..." etc. and on it went. Finally a statement from the man that caused the witnessing crowd to drop their heads and discontinue their pursuit, "If Jesus saved you, why don't you let Jesus save this woman too." It took a moment to sink in... they questioned what it meant, but he would not speak to them any longer. He turned to the woman and said, "You are free to go." He handed her a card. "You know... you don't have to live like this." The woman hurried down the road, disappearing around a corner. She felt a strange sense of hope. Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.

Happy New Year to all.

My Favorite Quote

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one pretty and well preserved piece...but to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, worn out and defiantly shouting "Wow! What a ride!"

The Invisible Box

Standing on the edge of my principles. Reaching my arm, fingers outstretched, toes barely inside the line. Reaching, reaching, reaching. Do I dare touch the unclean thing? Is it wrong to be human?

Still a child inside

Did you ever notice how animals and children both have the ability and permission to walk right up into your space and love on you? I miss the days of being able to do that. In an adult world where approaches like that are taken with a more erotic nature... there doesn't leave a lot of room for personal contact. This leaves solitary people finding other means to scratch the itch for physical contact in non-physical ways. I find that open and honest conversation helps a lot. So do warm and gracious hugs from gracious friends. When I feel like I have reached the goal of knowing and being known, somehow the need for intimacy also gets met. Knowing I am accepted for who I am and I don't have to hide anything. Well... those are all things that seem to feed that child inside of me who is starving for attention.

Paper Cup

A cabinet full of fine crystal, yet He chooses the foolish things to confound the wise.

The true connoisseur can understand the wine and see past the container. Take Balaam's Ass for instance. Or the ruddy young boy named David. What about the fishermen, the tax collectors, the earthy men who made up the chosen 12 of Jesus. 1 Corinthians talks about our human lives as being earthen vessels. We carry His glory in our bodies... the finest wine served in a paper cup.
